How does the HID ballast work for HID lighting?
2014-08-22 15:28:58

HID lighting in commercial buildings, Hid ballasts are an essential part of the lighting fixtures. Ballasts limit the amount of current that enters the lights from power supplies. This protects the light bulbs or lighting tubes from the high levels of current that come from the electricity source. Without ballasts, fluorescent lamps in recessed lighting and track lighting would be destroyed by the standard current. Ballasts protect the longevity of these pricey lamps, and James Lighting is committed to offering their customers a large selection of ballasts to extend the life of their lighting systems.

The ballast regulates the lamp operating current flowing through the lamp after the lamp has been started. The ballast is set to deliver relatively stable power to the lamp while regulating the lamp current despite typical line voltage fluctuations.
This maximizes lamp life and ensures other performance characteristics such as color and light output.
HID lighting, continued emphasis is being placed on energy savings, reduced maintenance cost and quality of light. In recent years, we have seen a shift from high pressure sodium to the white light source of metal halide. The ballast of choice has been the constant wattage autotransformer. Generally, emphasis has been placed on reflector design to achieve higher luminaire efficiencies using these existing metal halide electronic ballast.
