High pressure sodium floodlights, also known as SON and HPS, high pressure soduim. These floodlights emit a soft orange light similar to that of a street light and have a very high lumens per watt ratio making them a cost effective choice where certain light levels have to be met. Sodium lamps have a longer expected life of up to 28,000 hours, this can equate to 4 years of normal use, reducing maintenance costs.

High pressure sodium lights give off a crisp white light. High pressure sodium lights were introduced in the 1960s and were deemed to be initially similar to lights that were powered by mercury vapour. However, the added High pressure sodium in the tubes of these lights greatly improved the efficiency of these lights and of the brightness of the colour. Even to this day, the High pressure sodium lights range is considered to be one of the most effective and efficient ways to have white light.
