All fluorescent light fixtures consist of at least lamp(s),fluorescent ballast, lamp holders and internal wiring. Some older types have "starters", too. The ballast is used to create the voltage and current necessary to start and illuminate the fluorescent lamp. In time, the ballast may need to be replaced. When your fluorescent light flickers or makes a loud and annoying hum, a degrading ballast is the cause. The ballast takes in electricity and then regulates current to the bulbs. A typical ballast will generally last about 20 years, but cold environments and bad bulbs can decrease this lifespan significantly. You can get a new ballast at a hardware store or home center and install it in about 10 minutes. However, buying a ballast can be expensive, so consider pricing a brand-new fixture for comparison....

JAMES ballast results in a high level of cost and energy efficient HID lighting.Small, compact dimensions and high grade materials compliment the benefits of these units. The use of high quality insulation material, coil core and copper wire means these ballasts achieve a service life of up to 100,000 hours; that is 10 years of constant use at a winding temperature of 130°C. A change in temperature of 10°C down or up leads to a doubling or halving of the life of the unit. The magnetic ballast are for use with 35W to 400W HID lamps and come with push fit or screw in terminals with your required. Compact Electromagnetic Ballast (Copper Choke): Compact innovative Design Good Quality and High performance CRGO/CRNO Steel used High Grade Double Core Copper Wire Lowest heating temperature below 65 deg C High Light Output Power saving to Great extent due to use of high Grade magnetic property steel and copper Low resistance and low power consumption Safe and noiseless Durable for about 6000 hours...

Fluorescent ballast in the -40 (continuous temperature) can work normally. But the fluorescent tube at -40 degrees can not start. The fluorescent tube is evacuated, then filled with a small amount of inert gas and mercury, the inner wall of the tube is coated with a layer of fluorescent powder....

First,Remove the fluorescent tube by giving it a half-turn until its pins align with the slots in the lamp sockets. When the pins are aligned, pull the tube straight down, releasing the tube from the sockets. Second,Grasp the fluorescent starter with your fingers and give it a 1/4 clockwise turn. Once it unseats, you can pull it straight out. Third,Plug in the new starter and give it a 1/4 counter clockwise turn. It will snap in place. Fluorescent fixtures are designed to support a specific types and size of fluorescent tube. A fluorescent tube is incorporated into a fluorescent lighting system which consists of two or three main components...

In the last few months, lighting manufacturers have produced LED lamps that give off about 1,600 lumens, or the same as a 100-watt incandescent. (See, Bright LED Bulbs Arrive at Last.) Because these are new, 100-watt equivalent bulbs will be the most expensive, while the less-bright lamps have already gone down in price considerably over the past three years. (See, LED Lighting Riding the Price-Performance Curve.) The next question is color, either a cooler white light at 3,000 Kelvin or a warmer, yellow light at 2,700 Kelvin, which is more like an incandescent. One feature of LEDs is that the light can be adjusted to the full spectrum of colors, which opens up some new possibilities. Philips is selling a lighting kit of four bulbs, controllable through a smart phone, where people can choose the color of light from a full palette. (See, Apple Sells Philips’ Color-Shifting Wireless Lights.) I became introduced to cooler, white light when I installed my first LED lamps. I found I prefer the white light during the day, so I use those in my office, rather than the warmer-color bulbs. Less well known is color quality. In my experience, one is quickly spoiled by higher-quality light. I recently received a Switch LED, which has a color rendering index (CRI), a measure of light quality, of over 80. It’s perfectly acceptable. But I decided I’d rather have the Philips L-Prize bulb, which has a CRI of 93, in a spot by the front door where the light is on more often. Familiarity counts for a lot, too. The new Cree bulb has a CRI of over 80 but its filament tower, where a series of LEDs give off light at the center of the bulb, gives off an even light that resembles the glow of an incandescent filament Bulb Characteristics...
